The words of Gabriel announcing Mary’s pregnancy prompted a joyous song of praise. Numerous musical settings have made these words immortal. This concert celebrates these prophetic words as set by three major figures in European polyphony who all share an important birthday: the Tudor composer Robert Fayrfax, the ‘Prince of Music’ Josquin Desprez and the German Michael Praetorius, who laid the grounding for centuries of music in the Reformed countries.
